Peristaltic Pumps for Chemical Metering, Transfer & Dosing
Valveless, Self-Priming Peristaltic Dosing Pumps Built for Industrial Applications
A chemical pump manufacturer for more than 80 years, Pulsafeeder engineers peristaltic pumps that move fluid by compressing a hose or tube between a rotor and rollers—with no check valves in the fluid path. Our portfolio of industrial peristaltic pumps spans low-volume water conditioning dosing to high-flow transfer, giving you a valveless, self-priming pump built to handle abrasive slurries, viscous fluids, and aggressive chemicals other pump types can’t.
Simple by design, Pulsafeeder peristaltic pumps are built to outlast
What is a peristaltic pump? How do most work?
Peristaltic pumps were first introduced commercially in the mid-1950s, built on a simple principle: continuous, repetitive pressure on a flexible tube or hose produces continuous positive flow. A rotor fitted with rollers or shoes compresses the tube against the inside of a circular casing. As the rotor turns, the compression point moves along the tube, pushing fluid ahead of it while drawing new fluid in behind. Because the fluid only ever touches the inside of the tube or hose, it never contacts the pump’s rotor, casing, or any check valves.
Pulsafeeder’s peristaltic pumps stand out for their simplicity, durability, ease of maintenance
Unlike shoe/wiper-type and linear (finger) pumps, Pulsafeeder’s PeriFlo, Mec-O-Matic, and Chem-Tech lines all use a rotary roller design. A rotor fitted with rollers spins inside a fixed casing, compressing the tube as it turns. This is the most common peristaltic design for industrial and water treatment dosing, favored for its simplicity, durability, and ease of service. When the tube eventually wears out, it’s a single, predictable part to replace, not a multi-component rebuild.
Whether you’re dosing chemicals in a water conditioning application or transferring abrasive slurry in an industrial process, Pulsafeeder offers a purpose-matched solution built for your compatibility and reliability requirements.

The Pulsafeeder Advantage: Peristaltic Pumps Without the Valve
Pulsafeeder peristaltic liquid pumps isolate the fluid entirely within the tube or hose with no check valves, diaphragms, or dynamic shaft seals in the flow path. That means you get:
- Zero Valve Fouling: No check valves in the fluid path to clog, stick, or wear, eliminating the single most common failure point in chemical metering.
- Chemical & Slurry Versatility: Handle highly abrasive slurries, viscous or shear-sensitive fluids, and aggressive chemicals that challenge other pump types.
- Reversible Operation: PeriFlo’s AMP, ChemTuff, and FMP series all run in either direction for flexible system design.
- Consistent Metering Accuracy: PeriFlo’s AMP, ChemTuff, and FMP series are all rated to ±1% metering accuracy, so switching between series for different applications doesn’t mean compromising on precision.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pulsafeeder Peristaltic Dosing Pumps
What's the difference between a peristaltic pump and a diaphragm metering pump?
Both are positive displacement technologies used for chemical metering, but they isolate fluid differently. A diaphragm pump uses a flexible diaphragm and check valves to move fluid; a peristaltic pump uses a compressed tube with no check valves in the flow path at all. Diaphragm pumps from Pulsafeeder typically offer higher pressure capability, while peristaltic pumps offer simpler maintenance and better handling of abrasive or high-solids fluids. See Pulsafeeder’s diaphragm metering pump lineup for pressure-critical applications.
What are the advantages of a peristaltic pump?
Peristaltic pumps have no check valves to foul, run dry without damage, and self-prime without losing suction. They handle abrasive slurries, viscous fluids, and aggressive chemicals that can damage other pump types, and routine maintenance is limited to replacing a single wear item: the tube or hose.
Are there any tradeoffs with peristaltic pumps?
Tube and hose material must be matched to the chemical being pumped, and the tube itself is a wear item that requires periodic replacement on a service schedule. Pulsafeeder’s PeriFlo AMP, ChemTuff, and FMP series are all rated to ±1% metering accuracy, so precision isn’t a tradeoff, but tube service life should be part of your maintenance planning.
How accurate are Pulsafeeder's peristaltic pumps?
PeriFlo’s AMP, ChemTuff, and FMP series are all rated to ±1% metering accuracy, giving you one consistent accuracy standard whether you choose general-purpose, corrosion-resistant, or high-volume duty.
